You could have used that space to cast Fukunaga or Yokoya but no, you choose to add unwanted pseudo supporting characters that are basically unwanted. Calling it a failure is a massive overstatement.Īlso have no idea why Koreans like to add an extensive cast of characters in their shows. Everything about the Korean adaptation felt immature and weak.

Not people pretending to be making out in cars. but then again, Liar Game is a serious dark show about psychology, wits and human nature. I bet they’re gonna have a kiss by the 12th episode huh. The internal vomit I had while watching Episode 1 has officially just made a dive out of my mouth and splattered all over my screen. And yeah, i was just making a bet in the comments section of my episode 1 review that there would at least be hints of romance in this series, and guess what: Though his acting and all wasn’t that bad (as how Nam Da-jung butchered Kanzaki’s character), it wasn’t really enough to save the series.

I initially gave this series a second chance because Akiyama / Lee San-Yoon hasn’t made an appearance yet in the first episode. The impact just wasn’t there and the whole game felt like a joke. It disturbs me how the psychological aspects were just skimmed across. It perplexes me how the exact same game, same sequence and almost the same strategy (at least the core of it) can seem so lacklustre in the hands of the Koreans. god forbid they keep mentioning the contract when they don’t even tell us whats in it! Shitty writing.įor the most part, the 1st game was played almost the same way as the original. and at every corner when something happens “you didn’t read the contract”. People be like “read the contract”, “it’s in the contract”. The amount of references to the “contract” is too damn high. Looks like they’re setting themselves up for a lot of trouble given such very poor writing at such an early stage.Wait, it’s already shit so it doesn’t matter right? Did they even read their script once through to see if it made sense? people be like “help me cause I just lost my chance to win lots of money”.

Who in their right mind would enlist the help of a ex-con to help them win a reality TV show. While watching I kept thinking “so what happens if they lose?” They only mention having to pay a penalty to walk away from the game (which is, somewhat consistent with the original) but not a single mention about the consequences of losing. Regarding this point, the Koreans were definitely beating around the bush. At the end of the game, the dealer expects the original loaned amount to be returned. In reality, the Liar game loans participants a ton of cash for them to use in their games. They still did not bother to explain the main core points of the Liar Game. I don’t even know what to say anymore. I’m probably washing my hands off this series.
